Everything we do in the Worship Arts Ministry is specifically designed to support
and further the mission and vision statements of the church, and we do so through the following approach:
“Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout with joy!” Psalm 33:3
“A New Song”
Although we celebrate a great heritage and continue to keep the best of what has come before us, we continually look for new and creative ways of doing God’s work that are relevant to today’s world.
We are committed to doing everything we do with excellence. We will strive to always do the best we can with what we have, every chance we get.
“And Shout with Joy”
This will be a fun ministry! Even though we will work very hard and take our mission seriously, we are committed to being a family that has a wonderful time serving together and taking care of one another.
Opportunities to Get Involved
The praise choir is a high energy group of singers who lead the congregation in worship for services every Sunday and are heavily involved in seasonal and special events. The music selection is diverse and our rehearsals are always fast-paced and fun. No audition is necessary and the praise choir is open to adults and high school students.
The worship band is made up of gifted and trained contemporary instrumentalists and solo-level singers. Instrumentalists include those who play piano, keyboard, guitar, electric bass, drums, and percussion. The singers are by audition only and must also participate in the praise choir. The rhythm section (instrumentalists listed above) meets on Mondays, 6:30 – 8:45pm. The singers meet with the choir and then stay after for an additional vocal team rehearsal as scheduled.
The praise orchestra works together with the rhythm section of the worship band to accompany and lead the worship for Sunday services. The orchestra also is involved in seasonal and special events. There is no formal audition required, however players are expected to maintain a minimum of a high school level proficiency and will play a wide variety of styles, and in all musical keys. Music will range from easy to challenging and orchestra members will have a great time, though sometimes challenged by the music.
Student Ministry Worship Team
The Student Ministry Worship Team is made up of students in grades 7-12 who are instrumentalists and solo-level singers. They lead worship for Chi Alpha each week. Instrumentalists include those who play piano, keyboard, guitar, electric bass, and drums. They singers are by audition only.
GWC is pleased to have an active and growing ministry through major productions. Our biggest event is the CHRISTMAS LIGHTS production with a cast of over 130 singers, dancers, and actors plus crews. (see www.gwcchristmaslights.com). Our future plans include production efforts for seasonal holidays and small and large theatrical events. Information about upcoming plans will be on the website and in the church communications. We will be looking for lots of singers, dancers, actors, technicians, scenic artists, costumers, prop builders, and more.
This team is open to students (grades 7-12) and adults who enjoy singing and dancing in our CHRISTMAS LIGHTS production. There is no experience necessary, and the movements are not difficult, but members of the choreography team will be very active in the musical numbers as they sing, dance, and use a multitude of props. This team is very fun for those who want the challenge. Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons in the fall plus the full-cast rehearsals listed in the production schedule. Watch for starting date to be announced.
A part of the Worship Arts ministry is the PowerCrew, a team of qualified audio, lighting, video and media technicians who serve for weekly services, special events, and seasonal presentations. Together we control the display of what’s on the screens in the Worship Center, capture the services to a video recording for the web, make sure the stage lighting is fitting and the overall sound is pristine! This is a great ministry where creativity is encouraged and new training and techniques are constantly keeping everything fun and exciting while maintaining a professional atmosphere.
If you are interested in volunteering for one of these positions, please contact the church for more information.
The Worship Arts ministry works in cooperation with the Children’s Ministry to offer children an opportunity to sing, dance, and act for the Lord in special events and services. Activities include CHRISTMAS LIGHTS and other seasonal events as scheduled. Information about upcoming events will be on the website and in the church communications.
Each summer we hold “MACC Week” where children spend a week in a variety of activities including music, dance, drama, art, technical, sign language, culinary and more. It’s a great way for children in grades 3-8 to discover the talents and gifts in the performing and fine arts, plus it’s super fun! The week culminates in a Friday night performance, art show, and culinary tasting. “MACC Week” is July 18-22, 2016 with the performance the night of the 22nd.
Additional opportunities exist for people who want to be a part of supporting the Worship Arts ministry. These include weekly worship office help, music library maintenance, hospitality teams, photography, and stagecraft. Contact the Worship Arts office at (970) 330-3600 for more information.
